Morning: Arrival in Delhi
Upon arrival in Delhi, your tour guide will meet and greet you at your designated location (airport, railway station, or hotel). After a brief orientation, you’ll begin your day with a city tour. Delhi, the capital city of India, is a fascinating blend of rich history, vibrant culture, and modernity.
Qutub Minar
The first stop is at Qutub Minar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the tallest brick minarets in the world, standing at 73 meters (240 feet). Built in 1193 by Qutub-ud-din Aibak, it is one of the finest examples of Indo-Islamic architecture. Your guide will explain its historical significance, from the intricate carvings on the sandstone walls to the religious and political symbolism of its construction.
Humayun’s Tomb
Next, visit Humayun’s Tomb, another UNESCO-listed monument, which is often regarded as the precursor to the Taj Mahal. The tomb was commissioned by Humayun’s widow, Empress Bega Begum, in 1570. It reflects Mughal architecture’s grandeur and symmetry, and your guide will share stories of the emperor’s reign and the influence of Persian architecture on its design.
India Gate & Rashtrapati Bhavan
You’ll then drive past India Gate, a war memorial built to honor the soldiers of the British Indian Army who died in World War I. After a brief photo stop here, you will pass by Rashtrapati Bhavan (the President’s House) and Parliament House, which showcase British colonial architecture.
Lunch Break
Break for lunch at a local restaurant where you can sample Delhi’s famous cuisine, from rich dal makhani and paneer tikka to the city’s legendary street food like chaat and golgappa.
Lotus Temple (Optional)
After lunch, if time allows, you can visit the Lotus Temple, a Bahá’í House of Worship that welcomes people of all faiths. Known for its distinctive lotus-like shape, the temple is a modern architectural marvel and a place of tranquility, surrounded by lush gardens.
Afternoon: Drive to Agra
Following your Delhi sightseeing, embark on a scenic drive to Agra. This journey takes approximately 3-4 hours by car. Upon reaching Agra, you will check into your hotel and have some time to relax before your evening activities.
Evening: Mehtab Bagh – Sunset View of the Taj Mahal
In the evening, visit Mehtab Bagh, a Mughal garden located across the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal. This is one of the best spots to witness the sunset and see the Taj Mahal bathed in the golden light of dusk. This peaceful setting is perfect for photography, and your guide will tell you about the garden’s significance and its alignment with the Taj Mahal.
Dinner and Overnight Stay in Agra
Enjoy a sumptuous dinner at your hotel or a local restaurant, where you can try Mughlai cuisine, famous for its rich flavors and history. End the day with a good night’s rest in Agra, preparing for an early start the next day.
